Carine Under 15 Division 1 faced their toughest challenge of the season on Saturday, taking on the undefeated Hamersley side in Round 9. Knowing they were up against the competition benchmark, the team entered the match determined to compete hard and test themselves against quality opposition.

Hamersley made a fast start, capitalising on their accurate shooting and disciplined ball movement to take a 14-6 lead at the first break. Despite the early deficit, Carine continued to work tirelessly across the court, showing resilience and refusing to let the game slip away without a fight.

The second quarter was one of Carine’s strongest periods, matching Hamersley’s intensity for long stretches. Strong defensive pressure created several turnovers, while patient attacking play allowed Carine to find good shooting opportunities. Although Hamersley edged the quarter 11-7, Carine demonstrated they could challenge one of the league’s best teams when they maintained their structure and composure.

Hamersley again won the third quarter 12-8, using their experience and consistency to gradually extend the margin. Carine continued to encourage one another, with every player contributing through determined defence, hard running and positive communication.

The final quarter proved difficult as Hamersley finished strongly, restricting Carine to a single goal while adding 14 of their own to complete a 51-22 victory.

While the scoreboard was disappointing, the result does not reflect the effort and commitment shown by the Carine players throughout the contest. Facing an unbeaten side highlighted the high standard required in Division 1 and provided valuable lessons that will benefit the team for the remainder of the season.

The team can take pride in their determination, sportsmanship and willingness to compete until the final whistle. With continued hard work at training and a focus on building consistency across four quarters, Carine will be well placed to finish the season strongly.
