Carine 01 took on ladder leaders Hamersley on Saturday in what proved to be a thrilling and hard-fought contest. The game was evenly matched from the opening whistle, with momentum swinging both ways and the lead changing hands at the end of every quarter. In defence, Lynda Purcell was outstanding, coming up with several crucial intercepts and working tirelessly to transition the ball back into Carine's attacking end. Through the midcourt, Dee Dingle delivered a standout performance, feeding the shooters with precision and consistency. Her relentless work rate and accurate delivery into the circle caused Hamersley plenty of headaches and forced them to double their defence to contest the pass. Returning from holidays, Shareen Begum showed no signs of rust, slotting seamlessly back into the shooting circle and converting at an impressive percentage throughout the match. Despite a determined team effort and a game that remained in the balance until the final stages, Hamersley managed to edge ahead in the closing moments, with Carine going down by four goals at the final siren. While the result didn't fall our way, the team can take plenty of confidence from matching it with the competition leaders. We'll be ready to go again next week.
