Match Report: Team 15

Carine 15 faced a familiar challenge on Saturday 1 August in Round 10 of the Under 15 Division 1 competition, taking on Venetians 29 on Court 10. Having lost the previous meeting by 13 goals, the team was determined to close the gap and produce another strong Division 1 performance.

Venetians made the better start, using accurate shooting and strong defensive pressure to establish a 9-5 lead at the first break. Carine showed plenty of resilience, refusing to let the game slip away early. The second quarter was the team’s best of the day, with disciplined defence creating turnovers and patient ball movement through the midcourt leading to quality scoring opportunities. Carine outscored Venetians 10-7 for the quarter, reducing the halftime margin to just one goal and setting up an exciting second half.

The third quarter proved decisive. Venetians lifted their intensity, forcing errors and converting their opportunities with impressive efficiency. Despite Carine continuing to work hard across the court, the opposition’s momentum saw them win the quarter 13-4 and open up a significant advantage heading into the final term.

To their credit, Carine never stopped competing. The final quarter featured some excellent passages of play, with the team attacking confidently and matching Venetians for much of the contest. Carine scored 10 goals in the last quarter, demonstrating determination, teamwork and composure under pressure, although Venetians were able to maintain their lead with 13 goals of their own.

The final score of 42-29 was another win for Venetians, but Carine can take positives from the improved effort, particularly the outstanding second quarter and the team’s willingness to fight until the final whistle. The experience gained against quality opposition will continue to strengthen the group as they head into the closing rounds of the Division 1 season with confidence and valuable lessons to build upon.
